Nintendo E3 Direct 2015 Roundup

Yesterday was Nintendo's 2015 E3 Digital Event, and perhaps one of the most highly anticipated conferences of the event. News about Zelda Wii U, the mysterious NX, and the transition to mobile were all on the table as possible conference topics. However, what we ended up seeing was a mix of old and new announcements, and some decisions the community has been quite vocal on since.

The show opened with Star Fox Zero, the newest flagship title for the Wii U. Creator Shigeru Miyamoto dived into the history of Star Fox's origins, as well as showcased new gameplay. The gameplay itself seemed quite familiar, with new portions on the ground in mech suits. This game is definitely the Wii U's blockbuster title for holiday 2015.

The newest addition to the amiibo craze came in the form of new Skylanders, cross compatible with both amiibo titles and Skylander Superchargers, the newest installment in the behemoth series. Launching this fall, Turbo Charge Donkey Kong and Hammer Slam Bowser launch alongside their own personal vehicle and will be a big hit with "amiibros".

Xenoblade Chronicles X got a new trailer, as well as a much anticipated release date of December 4th. Coming from Xenobalde Chronicles on the New 3DS, this game is high on my list this holiday.

Perhaps the biggest surprise yet disappointment comes in the newst Animal Crossing franchise for Wii U, Animal Crossing: amiibo Festival. This new title seems like a Mario party set in the Animal Crossing universe. The game uses special Animal Crossing amiibo as board pieces and will make use of the new NFC-enabled amiibo cards as well. Many fans were expecting a new Animal Crossing game for Wii U, including myself, but alas, this is what we get. Animal Crossing: amiibo Festival launches this holiday season.

On the other hand, Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer was a game I didn't know I wanted, but now I need. This game takes the home design element of the mainstream Animal Crossing games and places you as the designer, designing rooms for hundreds of animals, each with unique likes and needs. The newest 3DS Animal Crossing title launches September 2015. A bundle was also announced that includes the 3DS NFC reader for use with older 3DS systems.

The biggest shocker was the return of the Metroid series, but not in the way most, if not all fans wanted it. Metroid Prime: Federation Force is essentially soccer with mechs that was originally shown on Sunday at the Nintendo World Championships under a different name. Many fans were upset at this announcement, even prompting a ridiculous petition to cancel the game as well as a severe dominance of dislikes on the reveal trailer.

On the 3DS, one of the other new titles announced includes Mario and Luigi: Paper Jam, a combination of the Mario and Luigi RPG with Paper Mario, a game with a lot of promise in my opinion. Hyrule Warriors is coming to 3DS in 2016 including all DLC as well as new characters from The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker. Fire Emblem Fates was shown as the US name for the newest Fire Emblem, which launches in 2016. YO-KAI Watch got a US release date of holiday 2015 as well, along with a new trailer.

Wrapping up, a new Mario tennis game, Mario Tennis: Ultra Smash is coming to Wii U this winter, as well as a new colorful and wild trailer Shin Megami Tensei X Fire Emblem coming in 2016. Yoshi's Wooly World also received a release date of October 16th

And lastly, the highlight of the show is Super Mario Maker. Launching on September 11th, players can create their own unique Mario levels and use the Gamepad to draw and manipulate the world however they see fit. As the NWC showcased on Sunday, the possibilities of this game are endless. The game launches in a bundle with a book showcasing various level ideas and history, as well as two new amiibo specifically designed to celebrate Mario's 30th anniversary. In addition, other amiibo from various franchises can be used in the game to give a Mario a special yet familiar appearance, the sprite form of the character.

That's it for Nintendo's E3 2015 showcase. In my opinion, a little underwhelming but still showed some cool titles like Star Fox, Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer (not the Wii U one), and Mario and Luigi; Paper Jam. Hopefully the conference's theme of transformation will bring about some more news from the big N over the coming months.

Secret Bases Returning to Pokémon Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire

The Secret Is Out on Super-Secret Bases!

Secret Bases, a popular feature of the original Ruby and Sapphire GBA titles, has been confirmed by the Pokémon Company to be returning in the generation three remakes Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire.

Now referred to as "Super Secret Bases", these bases will be created in a similar manner to the original titles. The move Secret Power can be used on various parts of Hoenn such as walls and trees to create your base. Decorations can be used to personalize your base, as well as set the rules of any Pokémon battles taking place in your secret retreat.

The most unique feature announced is the ability to share Super Secret Bases via the StreetPass functionality found in the Nintendo 3DS. QR codes can also be used to share your base with others. You can scout "Secret Pals" at the bases you visit, and with this, you can bring them back to your own base and battle with them, as well as access "special skills" only found through this feature.

Another feature is a "capture the flag" type system implemented in Super Secret Bases. At the bases you visit, you can take a flag beside the base's Secret PC. These flags can be used to collect points and improve your team's level, and also obtain additional "secret skills". The colours of flags will vary depending on the team's level.

Lastly, a new character has been revealed to assist in the creation of Super Secret Bases. Aarune travels with his Flygon and will instruct trainers about the bases throughout your journey.
